Ijesa Youth Forum Urges Urgent Action to Address Ongoing Security Concerns in Ilesa.

11th of September, 2023

The Ijesa Youth Forum, representing the vibrant and concerned youth of our beloved community, is issuing this press release today to express our deep concern regarding the recurring incidents of insecurity within our community, particularly in Ilesa.

While we acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of the Osun State Police Command in maintaining security amidst the nationwide surge in insecurity, we find ourselves increasingly disheartened by the ongoing challenges in our community.

The recent incident that has compelled us to speak out occurred yesterday, where, to the best of our knowledge, two lives were tragically lost due to a combination of insecurity and yet-to-be-identified factors.

The Ijesa Youth Forum extends our deepest condolences to the affected families, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

We wish to emphasize that these troubling events are not isolated incidents. They represent a distressing pattern that has left our community in a state of unease. It is our firm belief that such occurrences do not happen without warning, there must be underlying causes, and we expected the security department to have access to relevant intelligence reports that could have prompted preventive measures.

Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our community members. Fear and uncertainty have become pervasive among residents, leading many to question whether they can safely go about their daily lives.

We urgently implore the Osun State Police Command to take immediate and decisive action to restore law and order within Ilesa, assuaging the concerns of our community.

Despite our fervent expectations, it has come to our attention that there has been no official communication from the Osun State Police Command regarding this distressing incident.

Effective communication with the community is of utmost importance, and we believe it should be a fundamental aspect of the police department’s service to the public.

As the Ijesa Youth Forum, we are committed to collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force to restore normalcy to our community.

We recognize the importance of working together to address these security challenges, and we stand ready to support initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.

In closing, we earnestly call upon the Osun State Police Command to proactively engage with the Ijesa community, provide regular updates on the situation, and take the necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such tragic events. Our community deserves to live in peace and security, and we believe that, through collaboration and concerted efforts, we can achieve this common goal.
