A member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Atakunmosa East/West constituency Honourable Sanmi Ebenezer Areoye has called for calm in the wake of a disturbing incident involving some of his constituents who were reportedly assaulted and brutalized by members of the military at Itagunmodi, Atakunmosa West Local Government Area of Osun State
The incident, which reportedly occurred this afternoon where some members of the Methodist Church Nigeria in Itagunmodi were Allegedly assaulted by soldiers after they questioned the military officers for urinating in front of the church.
Honourable Sanmi Areoye while speaking with newsmen in Ilesa condemned the use of violence against civilians and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
“In light of the recent incidents of brutality that occurred in Itagunmodi our home and heritage, i understand that emotions are running high and tensions are escalating. However, during this challenging time, i appeal to all our people to remain calm and composed.”
The House of Assembly member reassured constituents that steps are being taken to address the situation and ensure that peace returns to the town just as he urged all members of the community to remain calm and refrain from any further escalation of tensions.
“It is important to remember that our voices have been heard, and the Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, Mama Erelu Obada the Commandant has been made aware of the situation. The authorities are taking this matter seriously, and steps are being taken to ensure that the perpetrators of these acts of brutality are held accountable for their actions.”
“I want to assure you that the Governor has promised that the culprits will be identified and brought to justice. This will not go unnoticed or unpunished.
“Such actions should serve as a deterrent to other power-drunk security agents who think they can abuse their authority without consequences.
I understand the anger and frustration this incident has caused within our community. However, it is essential that we channel this energy in a constructive way. Let us come together as peace lovers and work towards peace, justice, and positive change.
Honourable Sanmi Areoye maintained that by remaining calm and united, the people can have a powerful impact on the situation adding that it is important to value justice, respect and equality for all residents

The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents of Itagunmodi with the lawmaker saying that the injured residents including Sunday Ogunlumade, Emmanuel Adedeji and Abigail Adedeji have been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention
